Children’s Ministry

Sunday School

Sunday School is a special opportunity for children to grow in their faith and build friendships with teachers and fellow students.  The children's Sunday School classes use the PCUSA We Believe curriculum and are taught by church members who team teach on a rotating basis.  Children's Sunday School meets every Sunday from 9:45 to 10:45am. During the summer months, Sunday school classes are combined and begin at 8:45 and end at 9:45.

WOW

'Wednesdays Our Way' is our weekday children's program from 6:15 to 7:15 pm on Wednesday evenings for ages pre-K thru fifth grade.  Children are led by adult and senior high youth volunteers in various activities such as crafts, snacks, games, skits, and Bible stories.  This is a great chance for children to come together mid-week with their church friends and learn what it means to work together and be children of God.

Vacation Bible School

VBS is always a fun time at Second Presbyterian Church!  Every summer we set off on a fun-filled adventure week to learn about our faith in exciting and creative ways.  This past summer, Second Presbyterian joined Convenant Presbyterian for a combined VBS where we journeyed around the world and learned about God's mission in other countries.

Youth Ministry

Sunday School

We have two youth Sunday School classes led by wonderful adult volunteers.  Senior High Sunday School is for those in grades 9-12, and Mid-High class is for students in grades 6-8.  The Senior High class looks at issues facing students today and then looks at the Christian response to the issues.  The Mid-High class uses the Bible Quest curriculum.  Sunday School meets from 9:45-10:45 am.  During the summer months, the classes are combined and meet from 8:45 -9:45 am.

Youth Fellowship

All youth, 6th-12th graders, meet on Sunday nights from 5:30-7pm for dinner and fellowship.  During your fellowship, we do various activities including Bible studies, service projects, day trips and outings.  Friends are always welcome to join us, and we hope that youth fellowship is a place where everyone feels at home in the church.  Our goal is to create a time and place where everyone feels that they are welcome, loved, supported and encouraged.

Mission Opportunities

Second Presbyterian tries to offer a variety of mission opportunities in which the youth can become involved.  Youth help in the Soup Kitchen and lend a 'helping hand' when they are needed by members of the congregation.  In 2005 the senior highs participated in a mission trip to Jamaica.  In the summer of 2006 our youth went to New Orleans to help in the clean up of Hurricane Katrina.

Adult Ministry

Sunday School

There are five adult Sunday School classes that meet every Sunday from 9:45-10:45 am.  The classes vary in their teaching style; some are lectured-based, some discussion-based, and some a combination of both styles.  From the Young Adults Class to the Senior Adults Class, and three classes of varied ages range, everyone is invited to find the class that fits their needs.

Vacation Bible School

There is an adult component to Vacation Bible School at Second Presbyterian.  VBS is often in early June, and while the children are having their nightly VBS classes, adults are encouraged to participate in an adult Bible study that is going on simultaneously.

Wednesday Night Fellowship

Wednesday Night Fellowship is a weekly time of food, prayer, music, and program. Dinner is served from 5:45-6:15pm in Price Hall and program time is from 6:15-7:15 pm.  We offer two program opportunities on Wednesdays.  Adults can participate in a vesper service of prayer, song and scripture reading or they can choose to participate in a discussion Bible study.
