Men of the Church

Our Purpose

The Presbyterian Men's Group strives to bring all the men in the church together in an atmosphere of fellowship, fun, food and worship.  It is our hope that by gathering together and getting to know each other, we will be able to better serve God, Second Presbyterian Church, and our fellow man.

Weekly Meetings

Friday Morning Prayer Breakfast

Each Friday 6-10 men meet together in Price Hall at 6:15am for breakfast, Bible study and prayer.  The meeting ends promptly at 7:15am so that everyone can arrive at work on time.  The men rotate the breakfast cooking duty.  The breakfast is open to all of the men in the church.  The group has been meeting faithfully since 1998.  Be a brave and hardy soul and join us for some grits and a biscuit.

Special Projects and Programs

Ladies' Night

One of our special programs is our annual Ladies' Night.  All of the ladies are invited to dinner on the first Monday of February.  There is special entertainment, gifts to the ladies, and the awarding of the annual PIG award, the Presbyterian Inspirational Guru Award.

Presbyterian Inspirational Guru Award (PIG Award)

The "PIG" award recognizes the man who has contributed significantly to the church and the work of the Lord during the previous year or over his lifetime at the church.  The winner is normally the focus of a friendly "roast."  Appropriate "pig gifts" are given to the PIG winner.

First AM Church, Spartanburg

In April of each year, the men's group of the First AM Church in Spartanburg is invited to have dinner with us.  This has been a wonderful opportunity to get to know our neighbors and to develop meaningful relationships with our fellow brothers in Christ.

The Angel Christmas Tree

The names and Christmas gift wish lists of 50 children are hung on two Christmas trees in the back of the sanctuary during the Advent season.  The names are provided by the Safe Homes/Rape Crisis Coalition.  Members of the church are asked to select a child and provide gifts for them.  The Men's Group coordinates the project and delivers the gifts to Safe Homes.

Miscellaneous Projects

The Men's Group has donated funds for the purchase of Christmas trees, dining tables for Price Hall, and other needed items over the years.

Monthly Meetings

Meeting Schedule

The Men's Group meets monthly from September through April on the first Monday of each month at 7:00 pm.  The meetings are held in Price Hall normally, but on occasions the men will meet in local restaurants.  See bottom of page for schedule.

Supper Teams

The men prepare their own meals.  There are four Supper Teams with each having a team leader.  Each man in the church is assigned to one of the teams.  The teams select their own menu, prepare the meal, serve it and then clean up.

Meeting Programs

For each of the meetings, our program consists of a devotional and guest speaker/presenter.  The speaker can be from within the community or the church.  Business needs and prayer concerns are voiced.
