Steven (Steve) H. Rhodes, Head of Staff
Rev. Rhodes, born at the Naval Air Station in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, grew up primarily in Florida, his father having retired from the Navy there in 1959. He graduated from high school in Jacksonville, Florida. His wife, Judy, and he met in Jacksonville and have been married for 35 years. They have four grown children, three of whom are married, and two grandchildren. Judy is a kindergarten teacher.
A graduate of Florida State University in 1972 with a Bachelor's in Social Work, Rev. Rhodes also earned his Master of Social Work in 1974. He served as a Counselor for several years. In 1977 Rev. Rhodes moved to Daytona Beach, Florida where he was Area Director for Young Life International. It was serving in this ministry that he felt called to a lifetime of service to Christ. He enrolled at Columbia Theological Seminary in the summer of 1979 graduating in 1982 with a Master of Divinity.
Rev. Rhodes was ordained in October 1982 and has served congregations in Georgia, South Carolina, Utah and Florida.
Throughout his career Rev. Rhodes has had a passion for preaching and teaching along with youth and mission work. He has worked within the Presbyterian denomination and with PFR (Presbyterians for Renewal) in helping to establish and lead several Senior High and Mid-High Conferences. In recent years Rev. Rhodes has worked extensively leading short-term missions with YCM (formerly PFR Youth Ministry) to Mexico, Jamaica, West Virginia, eastern Kentucky and New Orleans, LA.
Rev. Rhodes has been at Second Presbyterian since November of 2000.

Whitney Moss, Director of Christian Education
Born and raised in Florence, South Carolina, Whitney Moss is a lifelong Presbyterian. Whitney received a Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Christian Education from Presbyterian College. Ms. Moss served for one year as a short term missionary through the PCUSA Young Adult Volunteer in Mission program working with adults with mental disabilities in Reading, England. She served St. Simons Presbyterian Church in St. Simons Island, Georgia, from 2001 to 2004 as Director of Youth Ministry and Christian Education. In July 2004, Ms. Moss followed God’s call to serve Second Presbyterian Church as Director of Christian Education. Mission is an important part of Whitney’s personal faith journey as well as her ministry with young people. She has participated in and lead mission trips to North Carolina, Georgia, West Virginia, New Orleans, Jamaica, South Korea and Honduras. Whitney enjoys connecting with children, youth and adults in the church, meeting them where they are in life, and finding ways to journey with them through the Christian faith. Whitney enjoys reading, traveling, being outdoors and spending time with her friends and family.

Beverly Barrs, Organist
Native of St. Petersburg, Florida
Education: Bachelor of Music Education (B.M.E.) from Florida State University, Master of Music (M.M.) from Converse College
Member of: Phi Theta Kappa, Sigma Alpha lota, Pi Kappa Lambda, Spartanburg Chapter of the American Guild of Organists (past Dean), Spartanburg Music Club.
Member of Pre-College Music faculty for 31 years and staff accompanist for the Petrie School of Music, Converse College, accompanist for the Spartanburg Symphony Chorus (25 years), Governor's School Academy for the Arts Faculty, accompanist for USC Upstate (3 years), free lance accompanist, private piano and organ instructor, organist for Central United Methodist 22 years before coming to Second Presbyterian.
Hobbies: Genealogy, cross-stitching, needlepoint, reading, my nieces and nephews and great-niece and great-nephew.
